Winners announced in Premiers Sustainability Awards

Winters Flat Primary School wins top Premier’s Sustainability Award

Winters Flat Primary School in Castlemaine has won the top award in the Premier’s Sustainability Awards – the Premier’s Recognition Award for their Students Leading Change Sustainability Program.

Led by its students, the program engaged staff, families and the community to reduce their carbon footprint and include sustainable practices within the school’s curriculum.

Last year, student leaders engaged with other schools in the Youth Leading the World Congress, and introduced new school-wide polices such as limiting excess food packaging.

Sustainability Victoria CEO Stan Krpan said the Premier’s Sustainability Awards recognised Victorians who have made a difference to the environment by implementing sustainable measures to better manage their waste, water and energy consumption.

“The awards aim to encourage innovation across all sectors, with a focus on delivering a triple bottom line – environmental, economic, and social benefits for our state.

“Victoria has an excellent track record of delivering innovative projects that benefit our environment and the community through efficient waste management, resource recovery, and new technologies for clean energy.

“It has been inspiring to see the awards continue to grow and strengthen throughout their history,” Mr Krpan said.

The Premier also chose Bendigo Sustainability Group as winner of the Premier's Regional Recognition Award for their work in bringing the community together to implement more sustainable practices across the region.

The Premier's Sustainability Awards are now in their 14th year running and are still Victoria's most highly recognised annual sustainability awards across business, government, health, education and the community.
